A Simply Delicious Blueberry & Banana Smoothie

Blueberries

When a busy weekday rolls around and you’re looking for a refreshingly quick breakfast idea- look no further. This smoothie is so light in texture it’s actually reminiscent of a sherbet. The real kicker is that it’s made with pure coconut water as the base. Few things in this world hydrate you as well as good old fashioned H2O, and one of them is coconut water. It’s no surprise a slew of celebrities led on by Madonna have started hydrating with this vital liquid during and after their shows and even gone as far as invested into coconut water companies themselves! True story. Corky facts aside, coconut water is an excellent source of potassium and electrolytes. In the morning it’s a wonderful cleanser and bananas and blueberries pair very nicely with it. It’s also a wonderful natural diuretic, and helps you flush any excess liquids you may be retaining and banish bloating. Thanks to our increasingly global economy, pure coconut water is now readily sold in most mainstream grocery stores. Whichever brand you end up purchasing just look out for these two things: that it’s not from concentrate & that it doesn’t have any added sugars- as that would defeat the purpose.

  • 1 cup of coconut water*
  • 1 cup unsweetened frozen blueberries
  • 1 ripe frozen banana cut into chunks

You could also add any protein of your choice to this smoothie. My go to protein source these days are Manitoba Hemp Hearts.

* If you’re not a fan of coconut water- feel free to substitute with water or almond milk. I always look for carrageenan-free almond milk, as carrageenan has been linked to cancer by some preliminary studies.
